As far as driver safety goes, there is only seconds from the time smoke starts rising and the bursting into flames occurs with EV's, how many drivers will burn up in their sleep?

Fixes are in the works or have entered production. Tesla has already changed over production on some models to a different, less flammable LFP battery chemistry. Other major players are heading toward LFP batteries also.

Solid state batteries are in development also. These are also designed to not have "thermal events".
