This isn't good. It's above freezing and raining over Donner. That's a BAD scenario. Rain is going to make the massive snowpack heavier and will lubricate any layers of ice in the snowpack. That will mean avalanches, even "climax avalanches", taking the entire snowpack down the hill.

SNOW AVALANCHE; their characteristics, forecasting and control

Take extra provisions and top off your fuel tanks before setting out across the passes. A full blown climax avalanche can take days to clear. It will take out trees like they are twigs. I remember as a boy hiking in the Olympic Mountains going through half a mile of downed Cedar and Douglas Fir, many of those trees were well over 10' in diameter. We had to climb over, under, or get on top and use a tree as a pathway.

It must be almost Sunday so I'll be heading back over that ####. And since my luck with Donner this last month hasn't been stellar, well don't even want to think about it. LOL

Chukar, Pheasant, Elk Italian Sauage and a few more mystery meats I had in the freezer— I pulled out all the stops, this is a big deal and the competition is fierce — the Shop Boss is supervising
