I dislike how both are taught. Very little practical applications are taught. This from a guy with associates degrees in math and Physics.

I did o.k. in Math and science but didn't really get them until out of the academic environs and stewing in the job/trades environs like the machine shop.

I think the country would be better served if math for every day use was taught. Things like how to figure out MPG and how much fuel/electricity you need for a trip (MPG and MPKW manipulation). The quick math to figure out the most cost effective products (lowest cost per weight or volume) on the grocery shelf. Those would cover basic algebra..... I actually learned those best in H.S. chemistry, cause the teacher was a jerk, in a good way, and was tired of the gross incompetence he was seeing in the population back in the '70s.

Then doing some layout work in carpentry/woodworking/metal shop/drafting (pencils not C.A.D. based), clothing patterns for the fashionista inclined.... would cover most of what folks should get out of H.S. geometry and trigonometry.

Just cover the basic theories and apply them to every day life using old school manual measuring stuff so they would know what the computer is doing.

I agree. Don't got time to waste on that crap.
I always have too many projects that I actually enjoy/find rewarding to mess with televised sports.
I at least find old movies I've seen before entertaining.

The Boys and I have spent the morning cleaning and sharpening and getting ready to start bird’n now that elk’n is done when the other half decided she needed to go see a friend in the hospital and go to Costco afterwards which by our estimate will be at least 3 hours— we looked at each other and came to a unanimous decision to go see if we can’t find the rhinoceros
