    People sometime mix up Memorial Day with Veterans Day. My SIL is an active duty Lt Col in the US Army. Myself, I spent my time flying a desk on an AFB in California. He has seen action and is combat hardened. He still has a fire in his eyes, but I have noticed from time to time he gets that Thousand-yard stare when he starts thinking about men under his command losing their lives. YES, sadly it goes with holding Command. He told me once the hardest thing he ever did as a Company Commander was write that letter to the next of kin, he had this duty 3 times so far.
