As someone who picks up a lot of replacement 6l80s from a gm dealer that distributes nationwide, I can tell you it's most likely the converter and the transmission is probably needing replaced. They are notorious for it.

Here is a true story. Years ago I worked for a towing outfit doing Triple A. Had a 2000 S10. 4.3 One day I’m driving along at warp speed and ran over a large piece of cardboard. I noticed it didn’t spit out behind me so decided to stop and look. Cardboard had wedged up against the catalytic covverter, which was missing its heat shield. Pulled cardboard out and it was on fire ! If I hadn’t stopped truck would have Probly burned to the ground.

But you'll always have to live with the fact you chose to do a 4 cylinder.

Yep, never happen for me. I was looking for a half ton and that's all they had was 4bangers, told the salesman "Sorry, I don't do pronouns".

not true at all, I have an Allison 4700 and I love it, will never go back. I also haul both heavy (not so much anymore only 120-140k) but 100% OD. It allows me to do a better job in extremely tight spaces - like 16 wide in a 17 wide space or crawling under overhead wires.
