I have exhausted my emergency rations— if something doesn’t happen soon, I’ll probably starve to death and die

Messes traffic up for an hour or so as they drop empties, then a bit latter, another hour as they stock up with full stuff.IH9300SBA, OldMainiac, homeskillet and 10 others Thank this. -

Waited an hour and 45 minutes for a clean trailer.
I used the time to have a phone interview with another trucking company.
The lady was nice, was able to answer nearly all questions, except pay.
"About $XXXX for regional, it's about .80 a mile."
"Okay, does that mean you pay .80 per loaded mile plus accessorials, .80 all miles with NO accessorials, or you pay percentage of the load, which works out to .80 per mile?"
"I don't know. Nobody's ever asked me that before. I'll find out."
"Yes, please do."
Driver facing cameras, too. "For insurance purposes."
Family owned company, tho, so shouldn't be any of that corporate bs. If I have a pay problem, I can just call "Gladys in Payroll", instead of playing phone tag with some third party "business services" outfit.
The only reason I'm casting about for another carrier is this: I've been on the Ketchup Pipeline for two weeks. Pay is okay, not great. That's fine.....slow season for food grade tanker. I get it.
Last time I worked here, we had 17 drivers, only 4 local drivers, everyone else regional/otr.
Now, not only have we lost most of our distance runs that originate here in Gem City, we have 30 (THIRTY) drivers, and like 4 (four) guys who run regional.
I'm wondering if a big contract is in the works, and I should stay put, or to jump ship to keep from starving out.
Just things ya think about while waiting for a clean trailer, and waiting to load.....JolliRoger, Dave_in_AZ, IH Truck Guy and 8 others Thank this. -
