    It is the "processing"phase that generates the odors. Fresh hides just off; folded and stacked with little flesh still on. Waiting to collect a load to take West Point Bryan Bros to Memphis tend to generate maggots and makes you appreciate a smooth bottom dump trailer. Rig was dedicated and known as "The Hide Truck". 7 drivers names were rotated monthly to run it up to Memphis on a Saturday,OT pay...

    St Louis Hide Co used to have a facility in Tupelo. Its leading attraction was a 30 foot circular open top vat about 3 feet deep. Had a paddle wheel arrangement constantly circular stirring the chemical compound solution and the hides in it. This treatment sorta defleshed the hides. A sort of vapor hung over it usually.
    It was clearly visible from the 45 Bypass northeast curve for about 500 feet of driving.
