What if it Snows?

My Uncle taught school in Tuba City and Dad & Grandpa worked the power plant in Page — let’s just say I had about the biggest playground a kid could have with some of the best guides in the world — just my opinion of course.

 

Foghorn is my all time favorite.

 

This brings back memories of digging snow analysis pits, using brushes and credit cards to analyze the snowpack. If you don't know the history of a snowpack, assume the worst. The worst is heavy, wet snow on top of an unstable snowpack.

The very worst will cause climax avalanches, taking out the entire snowpack.

Pay attention to snowpack conditions. Use the MyRadar app or consult state highway conditions on 511.

 

I sometimes envy my friends that do avalanche control. Playing with explosives, what's not to like? This video is from Alaska. On Snoqualmie and Stevens Pass the Howitzers are mounted at fixed locations. Then there's the fun times of dropping live charges from the open door of a helicopter....
