I am at the receiver.
The door is open, but nobody's home.
I really would like to get rid of this load. The quicker I do, the quicker I can pick up my next load which is headed toward sweet home O-HI-OH.
Well, any detention will be moist and delicious.....austinmike, Dale thompson, 77fib77 and 11 others Thank this. -

In 1970 I was 15. Had a second cousin that had a couple of trucks and a shop, ran with a bunch of guys pulling house trailers out of a big manufacturing industry south of town. Everybody used C65’s with 366 cid or an occasional IH. Diesel engines were not prevalent in the medium trucks yet. Very few mufflers and 2-1/4” pipes straight out the back or turned down underneath on a trombone frame truck. They were tripping “Leisureama” model homes into Arizona and the west as fast as they could round trip, which was an impressively short amount of time even by today’s standard. Interstate system was incomplete and many two lane roads and many towns to go through with wide loads.
Went with him several times with my Parents permission and still recall those trips as a definite high points in my life still. Riding with a Mentor and Friend across Texas and beyond, in the middle of the night at breakneck speeds, big block literally shaking store windows as they roared through coming home, to work on the trucks and do it again after a few hours sleep. My now Wife used to write me excuses from school to slip off and go on day trips with them to Monroe or Shreveport, (Im now certain my Parents must’ve known because they were not stupid people), however short they were always adventures with that bunch of old guys. Towns had gas stations on most corners and would have “gas wars” regularly. These guys would know where they were occurring and would fill up side tanks and cans for as low as 25 cents or many times less a gallon.
These are the types of tough adventures that made truck drivers and mechanics, that is so lacking in our times. Wonderful memories of old time truckers mostly long gone. Cept for the likes of @JolliRoger.Flint1, ElmerFudpucker, austinmike and 14 others Thank this. -

An on/off box at the house end would enable feeding the line and able to have a yard/over shed door light to get out and back. Heat, beer, dog companionship might cause a bit of straggling in the dark. Just saying.. (You might learn how to add some more outlets yourself)Dale thompson, High Stepper, austinmike and 8 others Thank this.
