    In my head 8mm Mauser, 30-06, .303 are all about the same. Then we went towards intermediate cartridges.

    Went with higher rates of fire. A Browning B.A.R. is chambered in .06 and after two rounds starts turning into an anti aircraft gun. It's really heavy too. Assault rifles are half the combat weight with ammo than bolt action rifles.

    Higher rates of fire absolutely counts. You can pin somebody down, whilst someone else flanks them.

    They also have many different bullets. Military has .308 rounds that will penetrate up too 1/2" thick steel. And not all steel is the same.

    I put a padded butt stock & a sweatshirt between the stock & shoulder. Still only 2 shots. Split a boulder the size of a volleyball. That gun would kill a Bear or Moose I believe. I think mine is a Marlin.
