    Did they bring him stateside and he stayed? There were a couple of pow camps in New Brunswick, some chose to stay afterwards….. I don’t mean to pry

    No, he stayed over there.

    Dad was drafted in ‘57 and was stationed in Germany. He met mom there and after his tour was up he brought her over in 1960.

    He had a hell of time trying to win Opa over, quite understandably so. That’s his favorite story to tell.

    My grandfather came to the US as a POW in WWI. He stayed. My dad in WWII was in the pacific, probably because he was 1st generation German. A lot of Italian guys in his outfit too I guess. Met my mom at Camp Adair (she was working with the USO) - they were both from Minnesota (about 50 miles apart as the crow flys) but met and married at an army post in Oregon.

    IMG_20250920_190335597_HDR.jpg I got a new job that starts on the 1st a couple of hours away from my home. It'll be mostly traveling, so I bought a camper today to have a place to lay my head. I almost made it home with it. The truck was running strong like always and went up in flames without warning. Thankfully the fire didn't make it to the camper.
