Really nice deck, curious though why the supports for the 4x4 posts are so high above the concrete, just where they landed to be level or some other reason?074344, broke down plumber, BennysPennys and 6 others Thank this.

The reason my son is looking at the gas engine is he will be pulling his camper and sometimes a two axle trailer. Ford has fixed the ten speed transmission with a redesigned main drum. And Ford Dodge and GM all have issues with the diesel engines. It's not so much the engines as it is the after treatment. I've got a friend with a F350 single wheel not a dually that's got the 7.4 gas , he likes it says it'll never get the mileage of the diesel but as you said gas is cheaper so it's a wash. My son is still a few months away from buying so he's got time to think about it.074344, broke down plumber, BennysPennys and 5 others Thank this.

Back in 1999 I built a Deck on the opposite side of the State and they required the Footer to be 12" Deep and 24 inches Square because they were more concerned with Lateral Movement than any effects from Frostbroke down plumber, BennysPennys, Feedman and 7 others Thank this.

I use a threaded adjustable saddle for the posts. I start them off in the middle of the adjustment to leave flexibility. The ones under the stairs and the larger posts are up so they are away from the snow and ice. I don’t want any wicking up on the posts.
The added bonus with the adjustable piece is the rotation of the drying post will rotate at the bottom if needed and not move or twist at the beam end.broke down plumber, BennysPennys, Feedman and 8 others Thank this. -
He's been calling me for cooking advice. I told him just turn the burner up as far as it will go and let it rip.074344, broke down plumber, BennysPennys and 12 others Thank this.
