DO NOT whatever you do try to beat the room spin by thinking that it's spinning the other way. The mind's own systems will violently conflict with that conscious thought and force you to hurl.
What if it Snows?

Well this is how my O-dark-thirty looked...
25 miles and a little over an hour later....
So my very first trip over Vail was an eventful one... Nothing better than being cold and soaking wet in sub freezing temperatures.
Now some idiot 4 wheeler with a trailer lost it and I-70 west is closed... But I have found a way around that doesnt add hardly any miles. So as soon as I finish this 30 I'll be back on the road.Wasted Thyme, InTooDeep, Deere hunter and 8 others Thank this. -
Feel for ya with super singles. They're the first to need chains.
I've wondered if those 'socks' would be worth it for that run over Vail. After all. It's always quick. Required at times. Just a short run. Road really isn't in real bad shape.Cattleman84 Thanks this. -
The forklift driver where Im unloading keeps disappearing into the building for like 5min after every bundle of sheetrock he takes off. Like, mf'er I have places to be...sort of.
WesternPlains Thanks this. -
The section between Moose and Moran Junction isn't plowed by WYDOT and the Grand Teton NP crews aren't always the fastest and the segment over Togwotee Pass to the parks East boundary to the county line is tier III, so it may not see a plow for a long time. Also be very careful as Bison will collect on the road during heavy storms.
It is a scenic drive but to plan for the slow traffic in the summer, be ready for a DOT inspection as the NPS partners with DOT in the summer time and the park rangers tend to be a lot more thorough than the state folks. The billionaires kicked the millionaires out of Jackson decades ago and they will try to pass you in stupid places all the way from the Idaho border to almost Riverton.
You can also take US 30 from around Tremonton UT -> Granger WY near Little America which will cut off 10 miles and add about 30-45min. When they were creating the highway system Idaho and Oregon complained because Hwy 20 was going to go through the park and be closed in the winter. US 30N was added there at Granger and the Lincoln Highway became 30S until 1974 when it was replaced by I80. I84 was I 80N until 1980 when they changed the name. US30 is the natural route to the NW if you dont' consider speed limits, curves and weather but Utah won when they were routing the Interstates.
While I don't drive that far East these days but if I was driving from Portland to Chicago and had an extra half a day or ~6 driving hours to burn I would take US26 then hit I90 but only if I was going through Jackson in the off season and during the week.Wasted Thyme, InTooDeep, Cattleman84 and 3 others Thank this. -

Last time I chained going over 4th of July, there was a truck on the shoulder spinning in socks. Didn't seem to be working very well for him.
