While not my opinion I think it is mostly because when I-80 is closed at Happy Jack it is typically closed for 10+ hours while I-70 even at the Eisenhower Tunnel is typically re-opened within a hour. I-70 from Denver to Utah is actually closed more often than I-80 but the duration is typically shorter.

I-70 is more of a plan B for me if the weather forecast follows the typical winter pattern. Typically the storms that take out I-80 do not take I-70 and vice versa.

I-40 would be my prefered path if it was an option.

Lucky for me I had this weekend off and while I do have to drive around southern Wyoming the rest of the week it is going to be very cold which means the wind won't be bad.

I grew up riding in my dads truck across 70 , then my first five years as a driver running 70 . but grossing a 110000 most of the time I’ll take 80 all day long over 70 and the dad gum traffic!
Plus the last time I went over the red light came on and the little guy with the measuring stick came out to check my stack height,( they are almost 14) I dumped my air real quick and barley got by!!

Have always despised I-70. Just never have a good run on that road. Could be that in or out of Denver has always been heavy. Then the traffic and the idiots that come with it. West of Gypsum, sure that’s acceptable. Past that, no.

Wyoming does not bother me. Sure have had to sit out awhile for road conditions. Then I have been running around that state for a long time. The last few years WYDOT has been getting a bit quick to shut things down, and a bit slow on getting sand on the road. A few years ago, they hadnthose big pile-ups, I think they got tangled up in the legal mess from that. Nothing like 30 or so vehicles all twisted up

Well, The OM being The OM, decided in the one day we had left at home to get the alignment checked, and new steers ( R284's ).

Then, because she is a ruthless and unyielding Tabby, had me go get the taxes all done. And paid. And mailed.

No wonder Pirate Kitty is hiding under the neighbors car.

Thank Almighty God we're heading for some snowy mountainous places.

Espressolane has a similar attitude to mine.

Watching wyoroad.info and parking early, while ensuring you have enough fuel and food helps out a lot too.

The rolling closures lead to a lot of drivers being stuck in an uncomfortable place to wait it out, especially when the weather on the other side of the state is good but the road is closed on the other side.

I doubt many of these drivers got much rest last Friday. This is right off exit 6 next to the Pilot in Evanston.

If it is at all possible it is much easier to just stop early and take your 10 vs. be stacked up in an illegal spot just waiting for the road to open.

Well after 6 years of trucking, the FORD ball cap is being retired. The fabric has finally split all the way across the bill.
