So how cooperative do I actually need to be with DOT during an inspection? They had me in, ran my license, then had me go all the way around and pull into the bay next to where I was, because they had a pit that I had to drice over.
Could I have refused to pull over the pit, so they'd have to crawl under my truck? Could I refuse to step on the brake pedal to allow them to measure stroke?
This is the 2nd time Ive had a DOT cop be a nitpicky, find anything they can ahole and Ive just had to sit there and take it.
What if it Snows?

I think it is whatever is "reasonable" to allow for a "safety" inspection. If they want to inspect YOUR personal stuff. That is a warrant and probably cause. But I am newbee and no DOT expert.

Actually you can refuse to assist a DOT officer during an inspection. There is no legal requirement to do so.
They can’t force you to do it. They can’t write a citation for your refusal.
You can’t refuse the inspection, they have the law on that. So it’s going to happen.
That said, refusing to assist will lead to lots of problems. They are going to tear the truck apart looking for any and every potential violation they can find, OOS ones and items they can write citations for. Ones that will lead to nice fines for both you and the company.
Not saying it’s right, just that it is.InTooDeep, Deere hunter, HillbillyDeluxeTruck and 3 others Thank this. -
Been getting tough backs lately. This had something in the way. Last moved me to a door where only jostles and day cabs operate.

I notice they have no problem with 500 trucks packed in a truck stop though, across the nation.
