We had about a acre, raised ours in it. It worked out. Just a routine. Soil and more soil. Along with a touch of manure and a few other things. The rest of the season is watering and hunting worms and bad bugs. One season we remember well. It was rainy that year. Little bugs ate everything up. Whatever was green it was gone by summer. It produced nothing.

The following year I introduced a box of Lady bugs. A few here and a few there and some over here...

That year we had so much food that you could not eat it all.

The one thing we depend on for about 6 weeks every spring is working bees. They come along and work the flowers on all of the plants. We have noticed a drop in the number of working bees over the years. We have them still in the area but not as many. If you don't swat them and stay calm they stay busy with the flowers.

It's understandable... folks get used to their food wherever they live...
There's so much variety of food in Brasil, talking not only about lots of produce, tropical fruits and stuff that doesn't exist here, but also about pastry, and sweets and cakes and "salgados" cooked in the bakeries on the streets and sold fresh to the customers... nevertheless, some tourists will prefer a hamburger at McDonald's with lots of ketchup and mustard... :biggrin_25523:

We used to make our burgers from scratch, even though Sysco would deliver the ground beef or the commissary would have it. Add a few things to that burger, peppers, onions and so on. Then throw everything on it with a seasme seed bun.

McDees is so unmotivating. Those are not burgers we seek.

In the Mid Atlantic we used to have what we called pit beef. Basically a big grill and cook whatever it is on it long enough to be really good. Add bread and gravy or other condiments. Burgers had some competition then.

Now down here in the south they know how to slow cook everything. You would miss out if you have not had a taste of it.

You'd be surprised what you can grown on your windowsill or porch/balcony etc. Herbs, peppers, etc. Had an onion the other day. Brought tears to my eyes peeling it. Maybe it's cause I buy local. Lots of farms near the sandbar.

Why get so hot over some posts being yanked? Violate the terms, get it yanked. Not hard to understand. Not like they send you a pm cussing you out for YOU messing up. Blame the people who couldn't post without insults, making it political, etc.

Sirscrapntruckalot - So since we got staff on the thread...can i get that laugh button? ;)

:biggrin_2559: Gosh man... You're making me laugh today... Nobody hurts my feelings... I don't care what anybody eats... none of my business.... My ex-husband and 90% of my boyfriends and other exes were carnivorous... I didn't care... BTW... I am not vegan... I am vegetarian... means that I do drink milk and consume dairy products... yummmm... even though my 221 food panel exam shows that I have intolerance for milk and dairy products... I don't care cause I LOVE MILK!!! :yes2557:
