We were southbound on 95 in Connecticut, during the famous reconstruction time. At that point weeks into the rebulding they had managed to completely cover the interstate in squiggly temporary reflective tape or paint or both enough to where nothing was meaningful.
So here i am taking the center of the pavement between barrier walls. Approximately in the middle lane. Ignoring the mental issue of all that pavement markings gone wild. At about 85 mph. With a convoy of trucks doing the same late one night.
Anyway we had a big merc 4 door on our right that was getting almost to be a problem staying with us where it's dark.
At some point the law deployed to our left about a dozen. We got on the radio and started talking, are we all going to get pulled over? Law says no no open up with spaces between you. So we did. They dived through between us and captured the merc with a little bit of gunfire.
Bossman probably never knew why there were two bulletholes in the trailer. He confronted me about it one day at the yard. blankety blank holes... whats dis? What did you do driver? etc.
I told him quit dispatching us into dangerous places in the NE.
As the devil would have it that was the very last time for that employer.650cat425, WesternPlains, clausland and 2 others Thank this. -
Some of you California should come through the DC beltway sometime.
Once in a while they run Motorcades through there. Flying flags of VERY high office on the forward fenders. Sometimes even that of the President.
What they do is line up big heavy cars and ram all of them through the packed DC beltway at rush hour. If you know anything about that aint no one moving. But when everyone sees the black cars coming at 80, they part like the sea in front of Moses as fast as possible. Motorcade goes straight down the middle with a absolute disregard for anyone.
They have been known to run people down, those too slow to move.650cat425, WesternPlains, Dave_in_AZ and 1 other person Thank this. -
For several months, was running cans off the port/rail yard in Stockton. Part of a big windmill project. They did all receiving at night. So blades, towers and accessories (what was in the cans)
About a dozen CHP would show up to escort everyone to the sites. Us can haulers always ran the back of the pack with one CHP following us. We ran at a very high rate of fuel consumption.650cat425, Rocks, WesternPlains and 3 others Thank this. -

I'm too paranoid. Figured with my luck we'd pass one or one would break off and go," You know the speed limit is 55."Vic Firth, LoSt_AgAiN, Wasted Thyme and 3 others Thank this.

Sure was glad when they finally got rid of the toll booths every couple of miles on 95 there, but that wasn't nearly as bad as getting stuck in traffic inside the old Baltimore Harbor tunnel on a hot summer day. Fumes would #### near choke you out...Vic Firth, Dave_in_AZ, 650cat425 and 2 others Thank this.
