Yea I have 1 degasing. Smelled it this morning as well as the other day. I called our main shop in Dallas last week and they have the batteries there, they'd rather me get the truck up there to change them because they save a butt load of $ that way. Problem is I can't seem to ever get routed to Dallas when I need to.
I'm gonna figure out which one it is today and disconnect it.WesternPlains, 650cat425 and lovesthedrive Thank this. -

I'm thinking about my car...
If I get if fixed... it will take months.... unless I get a quick job by Maaco but that will not do much good...
2 of the places I saw would do a good job, so I think... but it would cost between $10.000 and $20.000, it would take months and months and I would be in the US with no vehicle... unless I rented one, which would be too expensive considering the time involved or... if I bought another vehicle.
So... whether I get my vehicle fixed or park it in a covered storage place for now, I will need another way of transportation cause I can't keep driving it with the rust on the floor and the wet insulation and liner on top.. very soon it will eat thru the metal and make holes...
Buying a vehicle is some kind of HUGE HUGE ordeal for me...
What kind? How big? There's a lot of details and short term plans and travel abroad and other things to consider right now...
But the most important... How to get an used vehicle in good working condition?
To begin, I would want one owner only, no more than 10,000 miles driven per year and no accidents...
I know I can use the VIN # to check those things and a few more with CarFax and Auto Check and iSeeCars VIN report.
But that's not all... I will have to take the potential vehicle to a mechanic for an examination, such as, engine, transmission, exhaust system, brakes, steering, suspension... Among those, engine and transmission are the most important.
I don't want to spend money on an used vehicle and then find out will need a new transmission, or a new engine....
My mechanics don't inspect a vehicle any time I show up. They are always busy... I leave the vehicle in the morning and they look at it when they can. Car places let the person do a test drive for a little while but IMO that's not enough to evaluate the real condition of the vehicle.
I don't want to buy a brand new vehicle... So, I am trying to decide what I am going to do...tommymonza, dwells40, WesternPlains and 1 other person Thank this. -
I only have 8700 miles on The 'Maro. It's only ever been serviced ( oil changes, inspections ) at the dealer. Still under warranty.WesternPlains, 650cat425, lovesthedrive and 1 other person Thank this.

Reading Clark Howard's tips here... Take the potential vehicle to a certified diagnostic mechanic... going to visit ASE.com for more info... He says some dealerships will agree to accept a deposit for one to take the vehicle to a shop to have it inspected and return that in case the buyer doesn't buy it... but all must be in writing of course.....
WesternPlains and 650cat425 Thank this. -
How about a low mile Freightliner? Then you could take your house with you.tommymonza, Wasted Thyme, WesternPlains and 5 others Thank this.

Pardon my ignorance... what vehicle is that?WesternPlains, Dave_in_AZ and 650cat425 Thank this.
