    I know a guy that has his wife rub Vicks Vapo-rub on the bottom of his feet when he goes to bed with a cough. Swears he sleeps good and stops coughing.

    It's the lungs. The edges of them swell which is the O2 co2 exchange point. If you have shortest of breath get it looked at quickly. Air is 20,% oxygen, oxygen enriched air will help.
