We were saying the same thing 20-30 years ago. Most drivers before had family already in the trucks and were taught from wrench to steering wheel before they had any time solo. example; I was hauling hay from Ely to Elko and a couple times up to Idaho Falls before I had my chaufffers permit....but out in cow country it wasn't about age it was necessity. No real skill set required to put it in D and go down the road, backing was a practiced thing, but coordination of foot and hands kept most out of the rig.

Take the initiative and close the border. All the way around.

Agreed. I think some of it is the lackk of training these drivers are getting. They were taught how to drive on dry roads. As opposed to driving in adverse conditions. Fortunately of @Wasted Thyme he will be getting instruction during the adverse weather. I think it will make him a better driver for the long run.

PG&E has 80k people without power, 5 counties, due to winds and fire risk.

Nah....just waiting for "the big one" to hit and sheer off the coastal range should fix the problem!

Well I have a confession to make about the tractor. I am reluctant to starting it as in the past I sometimes screw up. I really dont want to find outt I messed up somewhere in reconstructing the engine. As that would mean I need to tear it down again, and I really hate that idea.

Except he'll have no knowledge of chaining or snow.

Assuming he will get a trainer that has some winter experience and knows how to teach....
