I’ve talked to more than a few old timers in this part of the country about weather. All of them agreed that what happens now means nothing for the future. Anything can happen. It don’t matter.
Only one statement about counting on weather. From a man in Ft. Thompson SD. He said: “I’ve lived here for 57 years. And I ain’t never seen no quaint snowfall.”

I don't think he had any control. New Jersey's rail divider kept everything upright.

Having a set of doubles like that just reinforces my feelings of joy that I never have to deal with them. (No offense please... I knew getting into Class A or CDL, I will not put doubles on my license. (Crazy reason actually, to silence Papa who was constantly bugging me to join CF in the old days (Consolidated freightways) which really impressed him. I made sure to inform him since I did not pass the test for doubles (Ya right, but he did not know) I cannot get the endorsement and therefore not qualified to run doubles. That pretty much ended the buggering that was almost constant.

I heard story telling in the Petro some time ago over a Fed Ex doubles with a locked brake system on the second trailer and jackknifed on him on ice all the way down Truckee Pass. I'll have to google it and find it to be sure if that is true or not.

I was in Rapid City last week. It got pretty cold. There was a hail storm in Montana. High winds made me pull over for about 45 or so.

It would have to be a very picky reefer to shut off. Continuous means continuous with the reefers I had. Whatever the issues it had with frosting or whatever, the engine simply powered through it. Compressor kept going.

What gets me is the stupid DEF. It's basically Urine. (Urea) which combusts to freaking Ammonia and Carbon Dioxide in the engine then pukes it out through the stack. Might as well be hazmat in a proper fire times two. Isnt Carbon Dioxide a beautiful gas that puts fires (And people) out? You are killing the combusting in the stupid engine. Poor thing.

We reefer guys come pouring into the truck lots at all hours, coolers on continuous, flank a bunch of dryvans and flatbeds in parking spots. Then whobble into the truck stop in our pajamas and whine about load times to the ladies behind the counter. Then back to our trucks, do a regen and then just drive away into the darkness thinking to ourselves no one appreciates us.

Evaporator core froze up and shut down when refrigerant and air could not flow. Running continuous at -10 with -20 intake air = bad juju. Fortunately for me and the load, it was nowhere near even zero because the subzero outside temp kept the load frozen.
