We got a high-dollar turkey from our local meat shop. Mrs Skillet picked it up Tuesday from the store.

We were going to have our big dinner with our son yesterday. He attends college nearby.

I open the turkey wrapper to start cooking around noon.

The turkey smells sulphurous. Not good.
I've worked retail meat, and I know we have a potential problem.

Rinse the turkey off good, close the sink drains, wait 10 minutes.

    No change. Bad bird.

We call the store, talk to the meat manager, say we got a bad one, and if you could just credit us for this and get us one for New Year's, that'll be fine. We have food in the house, chicken and burgers, no harm done.

The meat manager won't hear of it. Asks if we want a rib roast to substitute, no charge.

We tell him no, really, thanks, we have plenty, just get us a turkey for next week, please.

Nope, he says, I'm fixin' you up a rib roast if you wanna come get it.

    Okay.

So we had an 8-lb standing rib roast for Christmas Eve dinner, pie and ice cream (pie from Mehaffie's and ice cream from Graeter's, for those familiar with the Dayton area), then we watched our favorite family Christmas movie "Olive, the Other Reindeer".

We spent $500 on our son's gifts: new tires and an alignment for his car, and glasses for his face.

We got his "undying gratitude" (?), and he managed to refrain from spouting any leftist/socialist drivel under my roof.

    Merry Chistmas to all!

It's a day for coffee, pie, and more movies. And I don't leave until tomorrow afternoon!

Saw a couple of young ladies getting crepes at a little stall in Kuala Lumpur, right down from the Hard Rock.
Asked one of them what she was getting on it.
Pork chunks, mayo annnnnd chocolate syrup.
Said it as if it was the most natural group of crepe fillings ever.

Come on now. Everybody knows that Die Hard is the best Christmas movie ever.
