It suits me. The last couple years at ABF were really wearing on my mind and soul.

Like just today. I was able to hang out at my dad's 4th of July party, see my brothers, and then go into work at 9:45 p.m. I got enough sleep, I saw everyone I wanted to see, I got exactly what I needed today.

I'm just too social to be isolated like that.

I was a teamster at CEMEX. The games they played at the plant were unreal. The end for me was one year when we picked our starting stops ( after the first of the year ). I was like 15 out of 25. There was a guy that was the finest driver / worker / person you'd ever meet that could have started like 5th. He dropped his start to 14.

I'm going " Phil, what are you doing? ' The dispatcher at that time was this flamer named Ramone. Phil says " I have to start later so I outlast Ramone. It's the only way I can get some decent OT, cause he always sends me home."

I thought I'm done. I been here 3 years. Phil had been there 16 years. 16 years and you gotta play games. F that.

Yeah, not every Union shop is going to be a good fit. Personally, I would just rather be in the Union. It's made me a very good living, given me some very good benefits, and my retirement looks good.

    I don't sweat the day-to-day stuff. Maybe I'm a little too easy-going sometimes, even. I'm definitely more of a long-term person.

Baltimore asked me if I wanted a spot on the docks and I knew it was not for me, it was attractive however I knew that I will run the USA in my lifetime it's what i do. The docks can take care of itself. It's too... much of a chinese fire drill unloading and reloading 10,000 boxes on and off a ship in half a day. And at the end of the day the whole port is still up to here in boxes. Looks like nothing is done.

I keep thinking about that. If I took the Baltimore option and worked my way up in 30 years or so from 21 to 51, I would probably be living near the harbor shipyard district minding kids going to and from school, chasing them about what they intend to do to escape this dying city full of violence. Wife would be constantly after me to hit the Market "Lexington" for the goodies. And I would be evaluating the ammuntion etc. for the vehicle safe and so on. God only knows what I would be doing all day throwing boxes in some way. Such a life...

Not to mention when we gonna gat dat big howse in Howard County? (Half a million anyone?)

I ultimately stopped doing that. It's not the life I wanted in the end. And that makes me happy.

I always ask a stranger (The Time) who I think is from Baltimore. If he says "Tree Fiddy...." Yep. (3.50)

You leave a City that raised you. But you really don't leave. There is a Maryland Flag under some others on the shelf here.

Out here they’re building Dollar General stores in the middle of nowhere and I stopped at the new one down the road from me to get some DumDums.
And I grabbed a round Red Baron Supreme Pizza for $3.50... that was really good, way better than those crappy square Totino Pizzas.
And they have super low prices on beer, I prefer a 12 ounce can but I grabbed an 18 pack of 16 ounces Buds for a record low price of $13.95 .
I usually pay 16.99 for a case at the IGA.

And did you know an interior doorknob for a closet or room that doesn’t have a lock costs more than the knobs with the locks?

That's awful expensive for water. But then you can down a 30 pack and still be sober enough to drive.
