Heat doesn't bother people here because the humidity is so low.

Its wierd... Now that I have the cardboard blocking the radiator it does just fine most the time... But twice in the last 2 days it has struggled to build heat... Both times the temp was -5 or colder and the wind was blowing something fearce... I could coax a little heat from it if I down shifted and ran the engine at about 15-1600 rpm... Also built heat good while parked and idling. Tonight it has been doing just fine... And the temp has been as cold as -10.

And I finally found a working DEF pump at Bosslemans in Grand Island, NE... Every other PFJ between here and Brooklyn, IA the DEF was frozen... And I stopped at them all. Good thing this one was working, the tank was #### near completely dry... Its an 18 gallon tank, it took 16 to fill it.

 

Yeah I remember that winter... It was brutally cold for over a week.

 

Just as long as your "pipe" dont freeze.... Lol

 

Due to not being able to acquire my prefered anti-gel or find anything the company will reimburse for this winter... My truck hasnt shut off in 4 days... Aside from a few mims to attach cardboard to the radiator... I didnt care to get my tallywacker in the fan as I leaned over the radiator.

 

Swift is short on trucks. Only in Texas.

 

Well I drove 699 miles through the night... Brooklyn, IA to Cheyenne WY. 80 is closed over Elk Mtn. Due to "Winter Conditions"... I'm not surprised after seeing what western NE was like.

Traction was good, but visibility was diminished due to fog and blowing snow... Vehicles kicked up enough snow as the travelled that you couldn't even see them until you were within maybe 100 feet of them... But the large cloud of snow following them was a dead give away that something was within 3/8 of a mile infront of you. Passing required driving though snow drifted between 2 and 6 inched deep across 3/4 of the hammer lane... On the plus side they would back out of it as soon as your tandems passed thier front bumper... I tell myself that they were being nice and letting me over... But I've a sneaky suspicion the cloud of snow that nearly completely blotted thier headlights out of my mirrors might have had something to do with it.

I mean I'm all for going slower... But 20 is a little ridiculous when traction is excellent (unless visibility is completely crap)... 30 to 40 I can tolerate.
