Freddie's Lakeside beer joint, Columbus, MS, in about 1957. "Pluto" Mason and myself were in
a back booth when a "cuttin scrape" broke out halfway to the front door. No back door and activity was going on in front of the side exit. We sat and sipped. Plute had an old .45 US Navy issue with that non rust bluing. Owner put the bar bat on the one who backed up toward the counter and it was all over. Side info: Reg size can of Shiltz was $.35. Taller can had just come out and was $.50. We were staying with the short cans. Gulf new purple gas had just gone from 28.9 to 32.9. We went to Texaco, making a statement $5.00 worth at a time.

From one of the news thingies in the TTR's newsletter.....

TA planning six new California locations this year
TravelCenters of America has signed a new franchise agreement that will bring a TA Express location to Baker, California. The company also expects five other franchised TA Express sites to open in California this year.

The new TA Express in Baker will be located off I-15 at Exit 221 and is expected to open later this year.

In addition to the Baker location, TA expects five other franchised TA Express sites will open in California over the next year in the cities of Bakersfield, Grenada, Newberry Springs, Olancha and Rosemond.

Overall, the company expects to open more than 20 franchised travel centers this year in Alabama, California, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Wisconsin. The average TA Express site sits on 10.5 acres of land and contains parking for approximately 75 trucks.

My step daughter keeps trying to get me to try that veggie burger at BK, I tell her that when I want to eat veggies, I will. But when I want a burger, I'm eating meat. Period.
