Local police chief was questioned about my character when I was going into Army in 1956.
Recruiting Sergeant told me asked: When is he going in?
Sargent said as soon as you tell me something..
Chief said: Something, take him now.
Some time you can get a good reference....

I pulled a 3 way hookup out of Ft Wayne in 1955. Three R195 IH's. Ran down to the first shady overpass at Ft Knox and loosened the governor. Drive out set at 2150. After assigned driver at the company, would be set to 2750. No vacuum, no governor
Drove to Corinth MS and reset to drive on in to company terminal/dealer shop. Trucks were assigned, and as I had told boss when mine arrived, write my check. He said you want the one you drove down?
No sir, I just need my check. Kept up with the old drivers and heard that Dub's tractor will out run the other two. All pulling salt out of new Iberia, LA for a meat packer in West Point. MS., scale loads and usually running together. Dub had the one I drove down.
Now, it is not to say ungoverned engines are the thing. But I submit, break it in to run(up and down the RPM) range and it will run and pull better than a locked level for X miles.
In my experience and mind, you cannot hurt a truck engine in its top gear, as you cannot hold it in the road at that speed. The winding out in #1 up at peak RPM is what hurts. Sounds good, grabbing and gunning, but expensive.

Call me whenever you want. I’ve got a real anal retentive mechanical streak. Believe it or not I can be annoying. LOL

    I beg to differ.

I am very aware of the pros and cons of both places. Decision has been made and set in stone.
The only unknowns are how to make it happen.

Have to say that looks sort of nasty. Don’t care for BBQ sauce drenched things. Fried chicken definitely does not need sauce, well, good fried chicken doesn’t.
