I know I'm going to get roasted for this but please guys I need a serious answer. I might be taking a road test tomorrow and have to drive a manual for the first time in 2.5 years. I think I might be starting to overthink things but I want to ask, which is correct when starting to drive from a complete stop with the gear in neutral:
1. In a manual you come to a complete stop with it in neutral and then you can gently push it into 2nd gear BEFORE YOU START MOVING and with your clutch and brake still engaged and it'll slide into 2nd gear despite the truck not moving and despite having the clutch and brake engaged, right?
2. Or is it that when you're at a complete stop, when you want to start moving again you let off both the clutch and the brake slowly, and then push the accelerator pedal in between 10 - 15 RPM and put it into 2nd gear AFTER YOU START MOVING/AFTER YOUR FOOT IS OFF THE CLUTCH & BRAKE?
I'm pretty sure #1 was how we did it in CDL school. Come to a complete stop with it in neutral and then at the complete stop it would slide into 2nd gear so that when you let off the clutch/brake slowly the truck would be ready to go. But I might be wrong.
Is #1 or #2 correct I realize I'm probably overthinking things right now but I need serious answers as I said it's been 2.5 years since I've driven a manual?austinmike, lovesthedrive, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this. -
