If those rat snakes are allowed to grow to maturity, they've been known to eat Californian's.

First snake bite = Timber Rattler Summer 1974 on my right elbow, 5 days in the hospital
next snake bite = Timber Rattler Summer 1977 on my right buttcheek, 4 days in the hospital
Last snake bite = Copperhead Summer 1988 on my left ankle 0 days in hospital

All three hurt like heck, To this day I have not seen a Phlebotomist be successful in getting blood out of my right lower arm from the elbow down.

Im going Louisiana on my dog food. I got 3.66 lbs of chicken thighs. I'll boil that, debone it. Use the stock to make rice. Add some carrots and broccoli while cooking the rice. Then put chicken back in. I bought ice cube trays. I'll put some of this in the ice cube trays a treat. Freeze the rest. Ill use spray oil for the trays. 9 bucks. Have to see how much it makes. Oh basil, oregano, black pepper.

My only bad experience with a rattlesnake was around 1990. Got struck on my instep, between the bite and my grandpa cutting it I still carry a small scar on the spot. Fortunately, it was a "dry" strike as I only got a little sick. My worst wildlife scar is a circle just a little smaller than a dime on the inside of my right bicep compliments of a brown recluse.
