Yep, I have had a VERY close call with a Fanged Texas Cottonmouth back in 2010 about 6 months before my mom died. Out on lake Livingston near where the Trinity River flows into it. I stepped into a boat and a Cottonmouth about 18 to 20 inches long was sitting close to where my foot landed. Thankfully Cottonmouths are basically docile and this one was very much so. My uncle killed it and we went on out and spend several hours fishing. Oh, also this area is also known to have gators!

At least snakes are big enough to be dealt with via a load of bird shot.

These on the other hand warrant nuking the entire site from orbit because it’s the only way to be sure.

Never even heard of them. Don't really want to meet one.

So we have good news and bad news, but possibly still on track. Got unloaded and out of my receiver early. So booged over to my pickup. Got here about 2000. Irony. Closed. But I can park on site. So I am bumped up to their dock assuming they'll be running in the AM. If that is the case I can get loaded and scoot down the road with no issues.

I catch every big gopher snake I see and bring them home. The mouse, vole, gopher, and ground squirrel problems that plagued this place, with nobody living in it for a couple of years, are gone.
I tried cats but they wouldn't stay outside and they didn't hunt like the snakes do. Snakes are a lot quieter than cats, too.

Hitting the rack, up at 0530 to head to Ham Mound.

Regarding masks and senior citizens, in my corner of Dayton the geezers were the first to ditch the face bra.

Once the talking heads on DoomCenter 7 started gravely intoning "Our New Normal", the old ones said, "Eff You, not MY normal", unmasked and put their trust in natural selection.........

I carry one, but don't wear it unless asked to. And I look grumpier than I really am, so I only got asked to once, in a pizza place, picking up a pizza.
