I don't know this for a fact but the old timers say that once a skunk has sprayed a live trap no other animal but a skunk will ever go near it. We may not be able to smell the skunk after a while but the critters sure can.

They definitely pick and choose. When they need Us, suspend Hours of service rules. When there’s too many of Us, they crack down, and thin the herd. 08,09 was a good example.
