    My dad told me once for 220 you don’t need a neutral. 2 negatives cancelling each other out? ;)

    Subjective.

    There's 230V 3Wire ( no neutral)

    And 230V 4Wire ( with neutral)

    But the answer is yes. 2 phases create their own ground.

    One of the worst times I got nailed was by 208 sitting on top of an aluminum walk in cooler.

    I didn’t know that when I ran the 50 amp for my welder. I put in a ground wire anyway. I guess it won’t hurt.
