Lol, I know that’s right!! My Great Grandfather drank a lot. He delivered the mail with a white mule, and a wagon, Just north of Cookeville Tn. He hated the new wave of junk mail so much, he started throwing it out. He was like an old Cowboy, always had his pistol with him. Well liked by everyone. Someone found the pile of mail, and he got fired, Great Granny kicked him out. She was very straight laced, never forgave him. He worked the Railroad, for 20 yrs. till he got old. She let him move back in. Had to build himself a room on the back porch. He drank his whiskey, they took care of each other. I was 4 yrs old and living with them when he died. She visited him in the hospital, after he told her he wasn’t coming home. She looked at him and said pssshht, I knew you’d be a pest!! Lol. She was a trip. Chewed Mail Pouch tobacco every day. Lived to be 99. We threw her a 100th birthday party, complete with a Letter from President Reagan. She was angry, insisting She was “only” 99. Lol. 30 yrs later, I visited their graves. He was a couple yrs younger than her. Doing the math, I realized She was right!! She was only 99 when She passed. Everyone’s gone now. No one to share it with. I had to laugh.

American culture is such a trip. I'm 100% Slavic and it was all "be seen, not heard" when I was growing up. I'm sure there were stories to tell but I don't ever remember them reaching my ears. As I get older I feel a certain loneliness now having experienced the passing of my parent's generation and beyond. Here I sit, one of a few to keep memories going and I've got no stories to tell. Even tried to solicit info from siblings so I could construct a family tree. No dice.

On the flip side, I've certainly made my own memories. That should count for somethin'.

A trooper pulls over his pastor, and as the officer approaches the window he notices a bottle in a brown bag on the seat. Officer says, "brother, I pulled you over for swerving back there. You haven't been drinking have you?" "No sir, why would you ask that?" "Well I noticed the bottle on the seat next to you." "Oh, that's just holy water." "OK brother. So why is it in a bag?" "Well, that is to protect it from the suns rays." "Mind if I take a sip?" "Not at all." As the officer puts the bottle to his lips and takes a drink, he immediately spits it out... "Brother, this is wine." The pastor, "PRAISE THE LORD. HE'S DONE IT AGAIN!"

I grew up with pastors and deacons who were fine with drinking in moderation. The mentality being that drinking is not a sin, but that you were responsible for knowing what sins consumption could lead you into. As far as the biggest hypocrites, IMHO that still belongs to the Catholics. They have another big one in the news in Canada dealing with unmarked graves of the first people.

I would think truckloads of Oreos would be more appropriate for ANYWHERE in Colorado.

    I'm Hungarian, Slovak, and German.

One of my Dad's real fears before he passed on was that his stories might be forgotten.

They grew up dirt poor. We have a GIANT family.

Your's truly is the keeper of the family secrets. The good, the bad, and the ugly lol. I mean the whole family lol.

We've penned out many of the tales of old from all the old timers, only two left. I mean like I have 48 first cousins. Almost 150 second lol.

The family spans such a distance, the oldest first cousin passed on a few years ago. We're into 3rd cousins now.

I guess I have a good ear, or just found their stories interesting.

One of my cousins has all our families military records back to The Civil War. We got our names on more than a few rocks in Pennsylvania.

In regard to the cousins, etc......LOL, need a sign " The counselor is in / out."

Say 4 Our Father's and 4 Hail Mary's. The family loves you and forgives you. Lmfao.

So I have accomplished The OM's bidding and we have returned to home 3900 miles and change, 7.7 mpg, and 1 hour 4 minutes left on our 70.
