I can answer that now. LOL. I think it’s a horrible idea.

I started training after 1 year of driving. I was asked to train after 6 months. I was talking to my dbl about something else and he said "you've been with us a while have you thought about training?"

I responded with "I've only been here 6 months"

"Are you sure? You've been one of my top 3 guys for the last six months"

From a skill standpoint I probably could have been an acceptable trainer at 90 days. While I had little experience driving, I had over 10 years of teaching experience so I could have survived. Emotionally and psychologically not a chance, and if I had to team - fuget about it.

It's not about how long you have been doing something that makes you qualified - it is how well you do it.

The most intelligent, insightful posts ever on this thread, and perhaps on this site.
    Well done sir.

Drivers with 2 or 5 or 10 years experience don’t want to train. So that leaves the new drivers training the newer drivers.
    .
But Tuck, if they paid trainers enough than the long time drivers would want to train to make a bunch of moolah.
But NO, freight only pays so much.

I'm just thinking of the little things.

    • Try not to drive over the fog line as it could flip up rocks on people's windshield.
    • You can skip fuel routing and request another re-route for a different place to stop.
    • You can change you own fuel filter to save time
    • You can fix most trailer light issues without waiting for service.
    • It's easier to eat tacos and drive if the taco is not in your dominant hand.
    • The middle row is better for a 48' trailer.
    • Take the hard path and everything else will seem easy.
    • That lady sells more than incence.
    • Hot dogs shouldn't be on the rollergrill more than 5 hours.
    • Call ahead anyplace you need to stop for service.
    • Paid parking is usually free if you get fuel.
    • Tip the guy at the truck wash before you go in if you are in a hurry.
    • Stay away from CB shop "tweak and peaks".
    • Do the speed limit through towns. The stop lights are calibrated for that speed. You go slow, you will stop for alot of lights.
    • Stay away from truck stop Boudin.
    • Women will want to have your baby if you roll though the truck stop at night with only your marker lights on
    • When you get pulled over by some LEO and they say "you didn't do anything wrong, I'm just yadda yadda" say: "Last time I heard d was hat I got a ticket!"
    • People that are parked crooked in a dirt lot with no lines didn't do I intentionally. They just parked next to other people that left.
    • The front row is busy, you won't get any sleep.
    • Untarp and move your equipment out of the way so they can unload you while you stow the equipment.
    • Don't fully tarp in a tarping station, put on the tarps and move out of the way.
    • Cut the tire off and drive to a tire shop instead of waiting for a service truck.
    • Don't get mad and cuss or yell at upper management. They don't know, they are just trying to find out.
    • Bring you own shower towles. Plenty of open shower doors even when there is a line outside. Tip the porter, they won't mind.
    • Don't turn on the CB when there is a backup and ask "what's going on?" People will think you are an idiot for asking right after someone just explained what was going on. Keep it on or keep it off.
    • 14' wide is probably going to be 2' into your lane. Do you really want to go into that S-turn? Nobody behind you, just slow down.
    • Dont ask people if they are making any money while holding an ice cream cone.
    • If the BOL says tarp, tarp.
    • If they let you tarp off property, do it. Don't stay for the circus.
    • Be agressive in the Burroughs. They will barge you all day.
    • Not many tubas in Tuba City.
    • This no truck sign is only for straight trucks... download.jpeg

Don't ever look at my stainless steel travel mug lol.
I bring it in about once a week and throw it in the dishwasher is all. Otherwise its in a truck, on my desk or toolbox, and dirty.

    dwells40 and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.

This is quite possibly the smartest thing I’ve ever heard. As a taco eating expert I intuitively knew this, but to the novice driver or taco eater this is amazing.

You sir deserve a Pulitzer Prize.
