We feel that here in MD too.

Normal people reside in the mountains and on the eastern shore. The middle third of the state on the other hand has been taken over by wackjobs.

I’ve only been pulled in a couple times for an Inspection, since my wife’s been running with Me. 4-5 yrs now. I sometimes holler, get up good Luck charm, Scales open!! She sits there playing a game on her phone, never looking their way.

So we got the wheel seal fixed at the TA . They made me sign a waiver stating if they take the hub apart and any parts are damaged or broken or to much play in the spindle then they will not put it back together and i will have to tow it to a shop. You guys ever heard that before? I was a bit nervous about it thinking thats gonna cost me an extra grand for a tow plus downtime to get it fixed at different shop. But everything checked out ok and we had them replace the carrier bearing as well since i have been putting that off due to lack of time during the work week. But all is well in the world. Now we have to play electrician and track down why my marker light isnt working...

Ive started to give the scale guy a wave as i go over ... havent been inspected since , but they didnt wave back and gave me the red light on my drive axles when i was empty.... The passive aggresiveness from the DOT is confusing to me :biggrin_25523:

It's fir spindles. They will say you have a bad spindle and leave it in pieces. So you get them to fix or tow it.

I always make sure to stand there and watch like a hawk. That sounds like a racket they are running.. I bet its a profitable gig for them for an unsuspecting driver.

    Th
Never signed a waiver, not surprised though. I’ve seen it happen on a weekend. The race was spinning in the aluminum hub on a W9 steer. Guy had to wait till Monday to get a new hub. I always ask, at any shop. I tell them, I need to roll, don’t take it apart, if you can’t put it together. That applies to a lot of things. I often have new parts onboard, for a while before using them. Most recently new bearings and seal for front Steer. Replaced one last year, other recently when it started leaking. Had both done just a few yrs back. Left bearing started coming apart, after about 18 mos. it was too tight. Hubs were buggered up, from Idiot bearing the races in. I had to grind the bad spots smooth. Very aggravating. Now it’s all good. Next time, I’ll buy new bearing set/ with hub. Worth it, as the races are already installed. Some Shops won’t even install new races on an aluminum hub. Check that hub for heat against the other. A bit warmer at first is OK. Should go away, after a couple thousand miles. If not, it’s too tight. Too tight will burn up. Too lose will run a long time, eventually wearing the bearings on one side. Usually causes a seal to leak long before the bearing fails. They’ll run a long time too lose. Saying is, a million miles loose, won’t make it far too tight. Had one go bad after a month. Ruined the steer spindle. That’s why I bought the Torque wrenches, and do them myself anymore if possible. There’s a right way, and a half dozen wrong ways. Everyone has “ their way” . They say “ Never had one come back”. Yeah I know, because the Trucks 1000 miles away when it happens. Lol.
