Apparently it sheds its bark to rid of parasites, ect. It's related to evergreens and redwoods. All these yrs I assumed it was from like Australia.

Almond is good too. I'll burn it before I'll burn oak, madrone or Eucalyptus. It's getting hard to find because most orchards are chipped now instead of being opened up to firewood cutters. Too much liability if some weekend warrior cuts his leg off with his Home Depot Homelite.
We took out a forty acre piece that I had in almonds so I stocked up. I don't know how many cords I brought home 'cause there's not a straight piece in the whole load and it's hard to stack for measurement but I weighed it...27tons of dry wood in an end dump.
We also burn Doug fir and cedar for kindling and in the cookstove.

    LOL...Yeah, I'm a firewood snob. ;)

I've noticed some wood coming out of the orchards. Usually a professional type harvest operation. Small branches chipped on-sight. Bigger stuff going in the back of a trailer. Figured it was either going to be sold to urban folks for a profit or chipped for cooking pellets.

Now there is a good chunk of money moving those old trees
