So they published this one to the news e-mail this week. And caused me the need to vent to you all..............

Some of the worst reporting I've read. The problem is not truck capacity. The problem is the ports chose not to get stuff off the boats in a timely manner.

Current case as a data point. Ship came in Monday to Seattle port. It carries 2 containers of product that was not ordered by/through the company I work for. Landstar agent we use at times actually asked the management in KS to use me to get stuff off the port cause they had nobody with all the RFID tags and other Bureaucratic B.S. to get on the dock and get them. They were all panicked and said I had to get it Yesterday and Today. Started checking container availability Wed. Verbaled management Wed and yesterday that stuff was still showing as on the boat. Sent off the E-mail Message this morning that they are both still showing on the boat, not even off loaded yet.

The problem is not the trucks getting stuff off the boat. It is that the ports refuse to run longer/more shifts to move product from the boat to the shore. And... well... Also they typically can't handle the volume of trucks it would take to move that product to receiver in a timely manner.

Of course the frosting on the cake is: Need an appointment to get stuff off the dock, can't set appointment till the containers are released, And we have 24hrs from the time they are released to get them off the dock or pay a $500 per day per container fee. Per the fire marshal.

When do you hire more of them, or send in scabs under the defense production act?

Or when should the pres. send in the national guard/military troops to lend (force?) a hand?

 

I've hauled my share of Cans. Never cared for the Port attitude.
