It's that paper thin country ham he ordered. It could be used a window tint.

They sum people up when they walk in. They save slices like that sometimes for weeks for special customers.

So I had to spend money I hadnt planned to spend...

Decided I'd better get the chimney cleaned... Ran the brush down the flue for awhile then checked the fire box. Nothing had fallen into fire box, NOTHING!!

Upon further investigation I discovered that the pipe comimg out of the top of the stove ended about 2 feet up the chimney, before the chimney narrowed, and wasnt physically connected to, or directly inline with the masonry flue. This isn't horrible, but it does make it much harder to clean. It also creates a higher potential for a chimney fire because cooler air from the house is drawn up the flue causing the smoke to condense, which in turn creates massive amounts of creosote.

So $500 later and I have acquired most of what I need to install a liner inside the masonry chimney. I still need to get some fiberglass insulation to pack between the liner and the masonry flue. This liner will connect directly to the firebox and is basically a stove pipe run inside the masonry chimney.

Guess what I will be doing with my next few days...

I did manage to get the chimney pretty clean. Its not absolutely perfect... But its clean enough that I'm confident its no longer a fire hazard. Luckily the original open hearth fireplace opening is still accessable on the opposite side of the chimney from the woodstove, in the kitchen. This made it possible for me to get into the original masonry fireplace and clean the bottom of the flue, the top of the fireplace, and the original masonry fire box without having to remove the wood stove insert.... Thank goodness for that.
