Refrigeration has been good to me, trucking is what I actually wanted to do, my dad and grandfather along with several others were all O/O truckers. I basically grew up in and working on trucks, I've thought about going that way a few times when I start feeling burned out with this job then I think about all the new fun and completely necessary regulations (major sarcasm) that has been put in place and say "self it's time to take a day off" take a few days then go play in the same mud hole again.

That book you mentioned I'm guessing was probably blue and just like getting your CDL through a school teachs you about enough to be dangerous, then you go to work for somebody and find out you don't know sh**.

Oh my goodness... I would LOVE to have one of those lathes and that mill. I dont have 3 phase electric power here either, but I will when I put in my shop. It will probably cost a pretty penny but its just a matter of bringing it a couple hundred yards from the nearest 3 phase line.

Just the tooling alone, not counting the machines, is probably over $15k worth of tooling. Some of it is specialty tooling. Then all the precision measuring tools, probably another $15k to $25k. I'm not very familiar with the machinery brands so not sure about value but I would say an easy $25k for the 2 lathes and the knee mill... Maybe more depending on age and condition.

So the $49k he's asking is a steal IMO. The right person could probably buy the whole lot and then sell it piece meal, and make an easy $40k.

You're next hometime project should be to convert the truck to disc's.

The stopping power is phenomenal compared to drums.

Probably even more than 40K, that's a lot of equipment. I'd love to have that also but to get that kinda money outta my banker (wife) it would need a job.

Agree on the tooling and measurement instruments. I would bet the owner was a master and in demand to do the jobs others would not attempt. Kind of a "no brag, just fact" set up. Probably was retired from a machinist "day job" and this was his "hobby/home shop". People like this are an independent forklift shops
salvation. A man who can make you a replacement main shaft for an obsolete Vicker hydraulic pump is rare.

I could put all of that to work today if I had a shop to set it up in. Ive got enough contacts in the local manufacturing scene and am known for quality work from prior employment as a machinist that I'm sure I could make a good living with my own shop. I could probably team up with the machine shop I used to work for amd get more then I could handle just from him.

He is mainly setup for mass production of simple parts that can be turned out very quickly on CNC machines. He can do complex 1 of parts too, but they are really not profitable for him because that kind of work ties up alot of man and machine hours that could better be utilized on mass production runs.

Theres not a week that goes by that I don't wish I had my own machine shop to build, modify, or repair this, that or some such thing.

Would you consider relocating to the Phoenix area?

You give me a part and anybparts that connect to it, or an accurate print... And I can make it, with access to the proper machinery
