What if it Snows?

When my fuel gauge says " 3/8 ", I'd better be in sight of a fuel pump. On the other hand, after filling up, I can run 200 miles and it still says "Full".

In the 50's. 8N Ford; plowing along, stutters, dies. Dismount; twist the little knob above the fuel filter, remount, crank, make another round or two and drive in for lunch an fill up. 8 gallon tank as I recall.
In the current and recent times. Great big rig boring down the interstate, 300 gallons capacity. Glances at digital fuel gauge... Did I top up completely? Always made (fuel stop) before this low. Anyway; we are out, find an off. Cell phone call, roadside right out with fuel. Won't start. Pull filters and fill, replace. Prime, here we go, cranked up, moving out. Time and $...
You think the old farm tractor (and lots of modern industrial/construction) tank plumbing could possibly be adapted?

Old gas iron. Came with a 20 gal "seat" tank. Installed 100 gallon saddle. Little valve in floor. Point right, use that side. Point left, use the left side. Going thru Athens, GA on 29 to cross the river; you switched center to the seat while crossing the bridge and before the near straight up pull. 20 gallon enough, gravity never fails, pleasant climb. If not a crossover tank, you burned the left first. Old wives tale so if crashed you would not be sitting on top of 50 gallons. Same as
advice sleep while moving with head to ditch side. In case of sideswipe; lose feet, retain head. Trivia.....

That's my anti theft device... Place it half way between the 2 tanks and they aint getting very far... Lol

That valve actually has 3 tanks... Left right and front... Rear is off. With all 3 tanks full it'll hold 70 gallons,

 

Manual steering? In 1979 I spent a half year in Casper living with my brother and sister-in-law. I was surveying for new gas lines. My brother had an F350, could have been a late 60s or early 70s like yours. We'd take it out on the range to look for elk. The one thing I remember quite vividly was that you didn't dare get your hands inside the spokes of that steering wheel. The concern/fear was that if one of your steers hit a rock just right the steering wheel would whip either left or right and you'd be going home with some broken bones.

I hope you hang onto yours. They are one of the most rugged pick-ups ever made. I loved that thing.
