I'm thrilled to announce that I have never pulled a reefer, or dry van. Never sat for hours waiting to be loaded, or unloaded. The only place I wait is at the refinery, and that is typically 5, up to 40 minutes if overly busy. Sit in the truck until my turn to load. Pull up to the rack they point me to, park, shut the truck off and pull the key out of the ignition, radios turned off, remember the current odometer reading as I climb out. A woman or man greets me, asks my name, unit number, and odometer reading, they have already got my company name, and plate number as I pulled up. They write it down, plus whatever products and volumes I told them to put in each hole, tear off a copy for me, i get it, they get my trucks key.
Then i walk over to the load shack, and go inside, hand him/her that paper. They enter that into a computer, and do me up my paperwork. They sign it, I sign it, and I get 4 copies of each. I can sit down, have a water or coffee in the shack, and keep an eye on my truck through the big window. When the person by my truck looks toward the shack and waves, its my turn to get up and walk out there. They give me 3 copies of each meter ticket, it shows what went in, the volume, and temperature of each. They sign my 4 copies of the paperwork I got in the shack, tear off the yellow one, keep it, and hand me back my truck key. I do a walk around of my truck, ensure all valves are closed, caps are on, close the cabinet doors, climb in, start up, do another minutes worth of paperwork sorting it into 3 seperate folders, and drive away. Usually do an awkward shift as I get the sloshed timing back into rhythm with my brain, and off I go.
Eezy Peezy!
