So I talked with a farmer last night. Fertilizer is way up. He said an acre of land was $300ish and now will be a $1000 to fertilizer. For corn. He does 1500 acres of corn. So 1.5 million and isn't sure what to do. He also has his authority and trucks on the side to get away from the family business, when it's slow.JolliRoger, LoSt_AgAiN, homeskillet and 6 others Thank this. -

Illinois: 214 bushels per acre for corn.
214×4.45= 952.3. so fertilizer was 32% of sale price.
Granted he was from Indiana, I think yield
Would be similar.
So now a price of 1600 is needed.Last edited: Dec 22, 2021

The original idea surrounding subsidies was to provide regional security in terms of food products. The Great Southwest shouldn't become totally dependent upon the Great Southeast...bad for national security and all of that. It's become so twisted now with huge, corporate landownership and the tax havens they provide. Our tax code certainly hasn't been revised with our family farms in mind. I know, I know, there are massively large family farms as well, but they're outliers.
