I would think the ability to turn them off when you come to a dry spot could be huge not to mention not stopping at the chain up area. I won’t even mention staying dry.

You know I ##### about CalTrans and their controls but I really don't mind chaining ( when we should). I don't actually mind hanging chains. Got it down, bride helps (she always goes when chains are up) and we have a good time laughing at the idiots, as well helping the ones that don't know how to chain. If fore mentioned rookies are trying and just need some help. Crazy I know but it isn't that bad. Both of us are a little different might even have a couple screws loose, probably why we get along so good.

Caltrans has a big challenge with that piece of hyway not enough room for the volume of traffic and it stays open more than Wyoming.

I had considered some automatic chains, cause I am that lazy. Was designating money for them and everything.
On a newer truck than mine it would be much easier choice. A new truck should be able to be run about 10yrs. It ends up costing $500 per year/season to have a lazy button. I could justify that and even the double price adding on a set for the trailer. At the time I was guessing at 3 years remaining life of the truck. Hard to justify that kind of money on a seasonal accessory. More so when you can just say "no thank you" to loads that have a high probability of chaining, Or the load has to have enough money to pay the chain monkeys.........
Where it fell apart for me was unsure how to get them working right on the trailer also. As in why bother if you got to get out and chain the trailer.
Along with my growing lack of interest in continuing with the profession. -

Breakfast at Nobles Truck stop in Corinth Ky. Missed the biscuits and gravy. Gotta be there before 11:00. One of the few places that’s still the same. Smoking allowed.

Truck load of crashes on 10. Mind boggling carnage, wreckage ( some smoldering), and guard rail / and cable barrier damage.
