Say what? I'm busting my balls at 50+ years of age to start a second career. I've already retired early from the first. To snatch a securement device from me because I hesitated was BS. Yelled at me in front of a long line of truckers in the securement line. I'll complain all I want - I've earned that right.
I have 5 offers still open. I attended a well known and respected PTDI-Certified course that was 8 weeks. I'm going to the director in the morning. He seems to be willing to work with me.
Just don't hop around. If you go to different company, stay there until you get your year in. It will benefit you.
If hes still in training i wouldnt expect him to have it down. Learning to drive is hard enough but having to learn securement and all the regs on different types of loads is tough . It took me awhile to
Do you know the basic rules? Like how many feet apart at most are straps supposed to be? The WLL of a strap and how it relates to securing a load? If you know the basics, you can start to think about how many and where your straps need to be while getting loaded. My rule of thumb is 2 in the 1st 4ft (because Tx requires it) and then I do another every 8 or so ft if I've got a load that takes up the majority of my trailer. This usually more than meets my WLL requirements as well.
