I did 70 miles one way with a 12-16 hour shift. Getting moved to the yard 20 miles from home on dayshift. Price I had to pay to have the best pay and benefits second to UPS. Put in some time, have a goal, and things happen.

You have to decide whether the hours that you will have to dedicate to your employment are worth what you will get in pay and experience. A 14 hour day with 2 hours of commuting will mean that you are doing nothing but sleeping in your off duty time.

If that is your only option, then it is what it is. Something tells me you will discover that it isn't your only option after working/living that way for a while.

A local job could be anything from six hours a day to 14 hours. It all depends on the nature of the accounts and the needs of the company. I'm running local and getting around 50 hours a week.
Some of the others are essentially part-time this time of year because we have seasonal accounts that end before the others get running.

It would be a good idea to ask your prospective employer what the hours for the account you are being hired for are and how it works.

Starting time is a HUGE factor in Phoenix.
Had one local gig that was 15 minutes from the house, but worked my A off.

The one I do now is about 25 minutes from the house, non rush hour times, no where near as hard.

I'd not even consider something on the east side of town, cause that's the death commute, WTF grid lock traffic from hell.

I personally wouldn't have more than a 30 minute commute one way. After working 12-14 hours a day plus your commute makes for a very long day. As if it isn't long enough already. Takes me about 15-20 minutes to work everyday which is tolerable.

This may be difficult for a married man with children to do.

However, if you are single, you may want to rent a room or an apartment, (studio or 1 bedroom), as close to the terminal as possible. This way, the commute home is just minutes away.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

My "commute" is just past the corner of my garage...and some days, that seems too long.

8 minutes front door to truck door. Ive had 15-20 min commutes, worst was 45, did that for 9 months, traded up to a 15 min. I prefer to get paid to drive.

If that's both directions and the pays good I'd say thats doable.

It's your life, you get to decide if it's bad or not. Do you need someone's permission to decide for yourself?
