Power loads.. JIT loads.. All code words to o/o's not to commit.. Stick it on a newbie company driver.

Also ALL leasing is super bad.. best to save up for ten years and buy a truck cash.. Agenda much?

    Good question.

There are two kinds of "power" loads:

    1. Repower - this is when another driver with your company broke down. You need for them to drop the trailer so you can hook to it and finish the run. In my experience in the last few years this may require chaining to his tractor towing hooks to pull him away from the trailer before you have room to back under the trailer.

    2. Power Only - this means I drop my own trailer to go hook to a customer trailer and take it from point A to point B. After delivery I bobtail back to pick up my own trailer. For owner operators getting loads off a load board, PO might be REALLY cheap for pulling a trailer from El Paso to Chicago, but you might have three weeks to deliver that trailer and are permitted to haul loads with it for three weeks.

In your case, as a likely company driver, you are probably referring to a repower load. Those are critical for your company. If a driver breaks down, almost by definition that load will be late.

A power load means a truck only load. You use their trailer.

I was thinking of AC/DC or a term used in 70's porno films.

We have had a green driver ask what is really a simple question. Let's not morph this into something it really is not. 20 years ago power and repower might have meant different things. However it really only means getting loaded. Most carrier operations critters and drivers mean doing a drop and hook.

I am more concerned that these green drivers learn to NEVER accept crap or allow themselves to be forced into a position to fix the other drivers screwups. The first thing you do is a brief inspection of that trailer you are about to back under. Check to make sure the permits and other legals are current and in the correct place. Then get the bills and check the shippers reported weight! If this weight is much more then 20 thousand pounds ask that driver for his scale ticket. Hold your ground too. DO NOT pull out until you have done this. Local city drivers that operate day cabs can be really bad about picking up a crap load and dropping it for the driver to back under. Trying to get a load fixed at 2 in the morning is not fun and in a lot of cases impossible. Just remember you can't see inside that load unless there is no seal on it. I have wasted 4 and 5 hours of my 14 trying to fix a load. Do it enough and you start to wise up. Just a quick word on standing your ground. If you make a threat to quit be prepared to do so.

    Oh so many jokes.

Good thing I resolved to try an not make so much work for the mods/staff here, so I shall pretend to have never seen this thread.

    :(

Oh why do you tempt me so...
