Tried searching the forum but didn't come up with much. They're hiring City Drivers w/HAZMAT and 1 yr exp where I live and I was thinking of applying. I've been out of school and driving for a year now and have been looking into better paying things and I remember Averitt seeming like a descent company when the recruiter came to my school. I was mainly looking into union companies for the higher pay and usually company paid benefits and stuff like OT after 8hrs but I've also heard Averitt pays well, just can't get any numbers. Anybody got a clue what a City Driver usually makes? if so do they pay OT after 8? Make you work crazy hours that constantly change? I know some companies pull that 55hr crap. Wherever I go I'd like to stay there for a while. I figure my current job was my comprimize and the next one needs to be long term so I'm trying to get as much info as possible. Also, does anybody know if a city driver has to do orientation in Cookeville? or would you just stay local for training given the position?

averit if I remember correctly out here in Chicago payed 21 an hour overtime after 55 hours. I was also told by an employee that dispatch calls you every half hour seeing why you haven't completed the work assignment yet

That's not good! 21/hr seems a little low doesn't it? I know I've only got a year of Class A Driving under me at this point But that's pretty much what I'm making now without HAZMAT being part of the equation. I can't stand that OT after 55 crap. I know they CAN do it, but choosing to is another thing. I'm still gonna try to gather some info on them but stuff like that was one of the reasons that I was looking into the union companies, OT after 8hrs/day and awesome (and free) benefits most of the time.
