All the freight ive seen lately has been cheap.I was just in sc and people are jumping at 1.30 and 1.40 heading toward the great lakes and thats cheap imo but after sitting 2 days what u going to do just head home. For the guy with the $1200 truck payment and 1.69pm cost, I say goodluck.I hauled a load before the holidays to chicago paying $2050 on 1000 miles I run with my own authority got to the drop talking to a guy that took the twin to mine for his lease company for $1200 thats cheap freight. But whats considered cheap freight one day might be good freight the next depending on what the market provides.

This C R A P gets snatched up off the boards fast. Sat here all day watching it. Load in Detroit Friday 42K, 2 drops in SLC Monday, finalize in LA Tuesday, 2350 loaded miles.... paying $2500!
I laughed at them, but 5 minutes later it was gone....
Average quote I got today was $1.11..... makes me nauseous. We'll sit and idle ourselves broke before we'll haul that cheap. Our break even is $1.07 including everything so technically that would be $0.04 profit but I just can't do it.RAG Thanks this. -

why are people so ignorant of their own business theyre running? Talking about these $1 per mile loads.
I've talked to loads of prime drivers in truck stops. Every single one of them were telling me they werent making any money. And they told me they were just fine with it blah blah. I asked how they can drive for free and they said, you just dont understand owner operators. I just walked away after i realize they were IDIOTS. I mean, come on.
I find it awfully funny that ive never met a single prime driver who claims to make money. I think a lot of owner ops lie about that. I think the ones who are making money are saying they arent to keep people from buying trucks and competing with them, and i think the ownes that arent are saying they're making a ton of money and stuff to sound cool..
I was trained by a CRST owner op, with an old international with 1.25 million miles on it. Now, he had leased the truck from them but had paid it off and therefore had no truck payments, and the 10 cpm maintenance charge was now a savings account for him to use for maintenance.. I got used to driving that ungoverned truck and now being governed sure bugs me! hah. He told me he was making 200,000 a year. Since I had told him that I was interested in maybe buying a truck later, he supported that and had no problem with showing me what he was making, and well, i was standing there fueling with him and sure saw those prices on the pump! It said how much he was getting on every load on the qualcomm with no bull, and he never took cheap freight, ever. He was also spending 100k on fuel a year and giving his wife 300 a week allowance and..hah, thats good money but theres union company drivers making as much as hes making. Sad, i think.
He rejected a lot of loads. You know, its sad, but ive given this story to plenty of people and theyre like...Well, sometimes you have to take a load that doesnt make money to get somewhere that has a load! Well, sure, but that doesn't mean you SHOULD, because it drives rates down. Beyond that, he had rejected tons of loads that were low paying and going to low freight areas. Why are people running businesses with a total lack of a clue?OV1D Thanks this.
