    Nobody answered his question. We all made jokes including myself so here's the deal.

    LTL stands for Less Then a Truckload. That means it doesn't fill up the trailer. It also means it doesn't pay that much.....BUT...You can hit a real home run with some of these. Normally a broker will tell me a load is 48' and 48,0000 pounds. I show up and the load is 7,000 pounds and only 20'. So, if I can find an LTL load dropping off along my route I'll pick it up. If it's lets say 15' long and 10,000 pounds I can get around $1.00 a mile. So, if the loads is going 1,000 miles I just scored $1,000 more!

    Also, some people do only LTL loads. Normally you would pick one that goes from one end of the country to the other for maybe $.75 cents a mile then pick up and drop off along the whole route. My best one went coast to coast and ended up close to $8.00 a mile when all was said and done. Took me lots of work and logistics and was a real pain. Instead of taking a week it took 2 weeks also. LTL usually doesn't require you to be there on a date like a full truck. If it does just pick another one. There's plenty of them around.

    It's freight that comes with a superiority complex. Soon many will tell us how they work 8 hours a day, home every night, make 70k a year and have a personal masseuse who isn't opposed to a happy one in their truck.

    Just look at the post above, they can't help it.

    think it's a shame some drivers , either don't know
    What they're talkin about or they try to discourage others from getting good jobs or they even attack their fellowmen .....what you put out comes back to you ,weather it's good or bad ....i once work for guy that seemed like he had $ falling out of sky in his head no matter what but the thing about him was he wasn't selfish one bit , he paid us all good $ and he could anyone us in for work at 3:00 am and cover any load with good equipment , he didn't need to keep a close eye on any driver ,because he had a driving force that would fire a driver for a him around & if someone wrecked a truck
    he would listen to the driver ,but if any driver lied about the accident or lied to him about anything that driver was out the back door fast , he hated liers with a passion :biggrin_25524:

    I do not make $70,000 a year, but many nights I work less than 9 hours. It has to do with what the warehouse gets for orders from the out lining stores/locations. But what I will say is that my company handles dedicated freight, for ONE customer. As a result, and BY contract, I have 4 stops each night. BUT on the nights that I only have ONE stop?? I get paid my 4 stops! But I am home much earlier of course, if I only do the one stop. Now, this rarely happens that I have only ONE stop, most nights it is my full 4 stops, and even then since it is all dedicated, I can be back in my house in under 9 hours with bad weather or at my house in under 8 hours in good weather. So "these jobs" are out there, and I can assure everyone, my employer DOES NOT take nor talk to ANYONE with under 5 years experience, which I APPRECIATE!

    When I did line-haul for an LTL company, again, I did not make $70,000 but I was home in I'd say under 10 hours, as many nights, I had to wait for the other terminal line haul driver to meet me and switch out. The most I was ever late, was about 4 hours (to my house) as there was a death accident on the GW Bridge, and the road was shut down. In fact, it was a motorcyclist that not only got hit, but several vehicles ran over his body, yuck.

    LTL = Less-than Truck Load

    In general terms, it refers to multiple customers shipping product on the same trailer.
