" It sounds like a technique I remember calling "controlled carrier". The
carrier power was reduced when you weren't talking, then was increased
with the audio in an AGC-like manner. Sounded a little weird, but not
badly distorted. The objective was to reduce the average dissipation of
the final stage, so smaller tubes and a lighter duty power supply could
    be used. "

Yep I have said this many times and we were happy to see it go BY-BY from ham radios 40 years ago .....

    A CONTROLED CARRER STATION .....

It's TRUE and not only for CB radios I need to get my TS-2000 2 meter problem fixed but Kenwood DENIES it exsists .... So much for their repair center.

I work on SMD radios but when I looked inside the 2000 the entire CIRCUT had 24 parts in a space the size of your pinky nail :biggrin_25521:

I concur on some of this. Unfortunately in the case of semis, they cannot run very big antennas such as a 102 whip...which IMO would make a SIGNIFICANT difference in how far they can transmit as opposed to the typical fiberglass whips and even the center loaded whip style antennas they typically run...so IMO they use linears to compensate for lack of antenna. But as someone here has pointed out, power is not exactly the answer to getting out.

The four wheeler driver said on the "trucker cb forum". He is right, but that is completely impractical in most cases.

I have to agree Mike I beleve the hight for anything on a truck is 13 foot ... I would be willing to bet a 4 foot antenna on a side mirror would come close to that hight

Sounds to me as nice as that 9 foot wip would work It would hit everything going down the road ...
