Swift doesnt use paperless logs. they only use the qualcomm for communication purposes. And as for idle, if your cold run it, if your hot run it. And if your DM asks you to reduce your idle time, just let them know that its been cold/hot outside and they wont bother you. I drove for swift for about a year before having to quit and i would get the occasional message asking me to reduce my idle but that was on a low mileage week. For the most part though, if you get a truck with and idling system inboard then youll be good.
No that would be illegal. You cant run multiple logs. One or the other and canadian drivers cannot be on elogs as they do not comply with the rules up there. 12 days of logs and a few other little things. In the summer i was running nights and sleeping days in the south. Mainly texas area. My Idle time was over 60% some weeks its really low now but you have to do what you have to do.If you cant justify it don't idle it. Whenever anything came my way about idle time i would light a fire under that person.
Swift does use electronic logs. All canadian drivers need to have paper logs on them. ALSO YOU SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE SPARE LOOSE LEAF SHEETS INCASE YOUR QUALCOM MALFUNCTIONS!
Wow, if I am still supposed to be doing paper logs I am in real trouble. I have been on e-logs for some time now - all through the QC.
they are telling us in the training class that we are to keep paper logs in the truck as a back up, or if your truck hasnt been switched over yet, they also told us that we will more than likely be getting the newer frieghtliners with the new qualcomms in them and that the trucks are getting APUs as well..Im not sure how much of that is BS and what is real, cause they seemed genuine when they were telling us that.
Swift will not be putting APU's on any company trucks in the near future. On your mentor truck you are required to do both e logs and paper logs just to learn them both there is about a75% chance you will get a truck with the mcp200 qualcom unit and you will be running elogs of the bat. While on your mentor truck keeping both sets of logs make sure your not signing your paper logs if they are unsigned they can not be used against you. If a dot officer asks to see your logs tell them you are running elogs and give them the qualcom. There's still quite a few officers that are not well versed in elogs and problems can arrise if you show them both sets as paper never matches up quite right.
Because of a messed up situation with a log audit they did on me and found i had 3 missing logs even though i showed them the logs and still have them i was required take a grplog class. I was the only one there so i had a good q&a session with the log guy in lewiston I.d. I was told because the qualcom doesn't show the required 12day recap for canada you are suppose to be running paper. Also there are other things your suppost to list in the remarks section like B.o.L #s and a few other things that you cant show on elogs B.o.Ls aren't the best example because you can and need to be filling that information into your elogs on the load section.I would get with a safety coordinator out of your home terminal to find out if something has changed maybe you can run the elog system in Canada now. Last i heared however this was not the case.
